About

The Woolly Potting Shed is the garden studio of shepherd and entrepreneur Val Grainger.

Val lives in North Cornwall with her family, dogs and sheep.

Val has had sheep and goats since the mid 1980s and has spent her life working with wool in one way or another, from sheeps wool  insulation and industrial felt to knitting wool, there isn’t much she doesn’t know about sheep, or has made out of wool.

A recent change in family life and the 2020 coronavirus pandemic posed a new challenge, so Val has started to feature her sheep and wool in clay and some unique knitted mugs and knitting bowls.

Ceramic sheep and cows and other commissions reflecting her love of livestock, made in the Woolly Potting Shed will be available from time to time, please ask for details.

Sustainability is at the heart of everything Val does and a lot of the electricity for the kiln used to fire the ceramics is generated by the solar panels near the sheep sheds.

A small traditional showmans/shepherds hut built on a showmans generator chassis is being made into a small gallery/shop in summer 2021.
